Royal Challengers vs Chennai Superkings Chennai Super Kings batsmen perished under pressure as Anil Kumble’s three-wicket haul helped Bangalore Royal Challengers register a 14-run win, their first victory after five consecutive defeats, in the Indian Premier League match here tonight.

Chasing a modest target of 127 to win, the home batsmen spoilt a good platform provided by openers Stephen Fleming and Parthiv Patel to manage only 112 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Foodgrain Prices in Chennai - 22 May 2008


Food Grains Chennai (PTI): Price of urad dal moved up while all other commodities ruled steady in the wholesale foodgrains market here on Thursday.

Urad dal moved up by Rs.50 per quintal to Rs.3,750 against the previous rate of Rs.3,700.

Thoor dal, moong dal, gram dal, sugar, wheat, maida and sooji remained unchanged.

Suicide Bomb Blast by LTTE in Sri Lanka’s Capital


LTTE attack in SriLankaColombo: A bomb blast blamed on LTTE killed six policemen and wounded 50 people, including civilians, in Sri  Lanka’s Capital Colombo Friday, the military said.

Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said a suicide bomber on a motorbike triggered the bomb as he rode by a bus carrying policemen on a busy street in Colombo.

The bomber rammed into the bus, he said, blaming separatist Tamil rebels.

Karunanidhi hospitalised


karunanidhi hospitalisedChennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi  on Friday admitted to a city hospital after he complained of severe neck and back pain.

Doctors attending on him at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College Hospital said he will need to spend at least a few days in the hospital as he needed complete rest.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister K Anbazhagan has appealed to the public not to disturb the Chief Minister till he recovers completely.

Chennai Super Kings bow down to Jayasuriya


Sanath Jayasuriya was simply unstoppable on the night THE WORLD’S most fearsome batsman, Sanath Jayasuriya, bulldozed Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers and scored his unbeaten 114 out of 45 balls against Chennai Super Kings on May 14 (Wednesday) night. It was the second fastest century of Indian Premiere League (IPL) and Jayasuriya’s maiden century in the IPL and fourth in Twenty20.

Jayasuriya hit 11 sixes in the highly exciting batting innings and has been bettered only by Brendon McCullum’s 13 during his unbeaten knock of 158 not out for Kolkata Knight Riders against Bangalore Royal Challenges in Bangalore on April 18. Jayasuriya has become the fifth batsman to post a 100 in the IPL.

Ford launches new Diesel Engine Assembly Plant at Maramalai Nagar, Chennai


Ford's Diesel Engine Assembly Plant Chennai: Ford India has launched production of diesel engines at its new, state-of the-art engine assembly plant at Maramalai Nagar, Chennai, for use in the popular midsize Ford Fiesta and Ford Fusion product lines. The new US$26 million assembly plant officially went online in late April, and has an annual capacity of 60,000 units.

The 10,000sqm assembly plant includes a cylinder block machining line capable of producing 50,000 diesel and 10,000 petrol engine blocks. The first engines being produced are the 1.4-litre turbodiesel Duratorq engines.

Harbhajan banned for 5 ODIs, warned of life ban


 BCCI appointed Commissioner Sudhir Nanavati holds the final report of the Slapgate controversy to be submitted to the BCCI Mumbai: Temperamental off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Wednesday got away with a five-match ODI ban for slapping his India teammate S Sreesanth but was warned by the Cricket Board of a life ban for any further misconduct on his part.

A day after BCCI-appointed Commissioner Sudhir Nanavati submitted a 14-page report to the Board, the BCCI’s Disciplinary Committee acted swiftly to impose the ban on the beleaguered spinner who will now miss the forthcoming tri-series in Bangladesh and two matches of the Asia Cup in Pakistan.
