Chennai (PTI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said his remarks that AIADMK might have incited the violence in Dr B R Ambedkar Law College here was only to make “fun” of its chief Jayalalithaa’s demand for his resignation owning moral responsibility of the incident.
In a statement, he asked if Jayalalithaa had to file a defamation case against him for his remarks, “how many cases had to be filed against her for making disparaging remarks.”
The Chief Minister said he was prepared to face the case.
He said the Chennai city Police Commissioner and a Joint Commissioner had been shifted, while an Assistant Commissioner and some other police officials were suspended in the case.
Besides, over 20 students had been arrested for indulging in violence and judicial probe had been ordered into the incidents, he said.
“The resignation demand after all these things was only funny and that was why I made fun of the demand,” he said.
On her remarks that he did not attend the assembly on the day when the issue was raised, he said, “let one take the attendance of the assembly. People will know who attends the house for number of days,” he said.
Refuting Jayalalithaa’s claim that she did not get proper security, he said as per Centre’s instructions, she was being provided ‘Z plus’ security. “She is entitled for security by 54 police personnel but has been provided with security by 84 personnel,” he said adding that she had also been allotted a bullet proof car, which “she never used.”
