Tata Motors announces bailout plan for Jaguar Land Rover Cars


Jaguar Cars Singapore: Tata Motors Ltd has agreed to inject "tens of millions" of pounds into Jaguar Land Rover to prevent an immediate cash flow crisis, the Financial Times reported on Monday.

The move by Tata, which bought the luxury carmaker earlier this year for $2.3 billion from Ford Motor Co, comes on top of a "hundreds of millions" of working capital it has provided to the British firm, the paper said citing sources close to Tata.

Car makers around the globe have been hit by a collapse in demand as the economic slowdown spreads and access to credit is choked off by the financial crisis.

3 lakh UK visas wrongly issued each year


LONDON: British consular officials across the world are wrongly approving nearly 300,000 visas to visit Britain every year.

The revelation, which was made during a presentation to the Home Affairs Committee here, has sparked a round of criticism of the Labour government’s immigration policy.

Chennai Techie Ganesh Sivaraman found dead in Australia - parents suspect foul play


CHENNAI: Since November 14, Ganesh Sivaraman’s online networking community account has been filling up with condolence messages from friends.

The research engineer at the University of South Australia died under mysterious circumstances a week ago. But the reason the messages have been filing in only from Friday, November 14, is because that’s the day Ganesh’s parents, who live in Vadapalani, Chennai, found out about their son’s death.

Suicide Bomb Blast by LTTE in Sri Lanka’s Capital


LTTE attack in SriLankaColombo: A bomb blast blamed on LTTE killed six policemen and wounded 50 people, including civilians, in Sri  Lanka’s Capital Colombo Friday, the military said.

Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said a suicide bomber on a motorbike triggered the bomb as he rode by a bus carrying policemen on a busy street in Colombo.

The bomber rammed into the bus, he said, blaming separatist Tamil rebels.

Earth Quake hits China: 10,000 killed


China Earth Quake - UNDER THE SURFACE: Rescue workers pull out a young girl from under the rubble of a collapsed school in Juyuan. Beijing: Relief troops walked hours over rock, debris and mud in hopes of reaching the worst-hit area of an earthquake that rocked central China on Monday, killing nearly 10,000 people, state-run media reported.

Setting out from Maerkang in Sichuan Province at 8 pm on Monday, the 100 or so troops had to travel 200 kilometers (124 miles) to go before reaching Wenchuan, the epicenter of the quake, also in the province, Xinhua reported. After seven hours, they still had 70 kilometers (43 miles) to go.

Six Indians killed in crash on way to Niagara Falls


tricolour_248 West Springfield, Pennsylvania: Six Indian nationals who were on their way to visit Niagara Falls were killed when their minivan spun out of control and was hit by an oncoming car on a Pennsylvania highway, police said on Sunday.

Four of those killed worked at the Troy, Michigan-based Syntel Inc, an information technology company, and two were spouses of employees, company spokesman Jonathan James said on Sunday.

University College Oxford LONDON: Two cousins of Indian origin at the University of Oxford have overnight become millionaires after a free online service they started for students was sold for 2.5 million pounds within months after its launch.

Indian student’s death in UK: Youth held on suspicion


Jyotirmayee_Indian student_murder_uk LONDON/VIJAYAWADA: The brutal assault and death of the 23-year-old student from Vijayawada in Birmingham continues to be shrouded in mystery, though the police have arrested a youth on suspicion of murder.

A West Midlands policeman on Thursday told TOI that a murder inquiry has been launched into Vempala Samrajya Jyothirmayi’s death in her apartment. “The arrested man, aged around 24 years, is helping us in the probe,” he said, but refused to specify the man’s nationality. “There is no indication of any motive at this stage.”
